The number of visits by the Defender to the child care and protection institutions has increased 11 times: statistics

Unannounced visits to child care and protection institutions by the Human Rights Defender’s Office has increased 11 times in 2018.

During the 10 months of 2016, 3 visits were conducted; in 2017 – 19 visits; in 2018 – 215. During the visits a number of issues have been recorded and specific measures have been taken by the Human Rights Defender to resolve them. Particularly, amendments to legal acts were initiated and inspections were conducted based on the Defender’s official letter, etc.

As a reminder, the Defender carries out monitoring of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted on November 20, 1989, as well as the protection of child’s rights and prevention of violations.
